Happy New Year! We enter 2023 with thanks for the work and dedication of our MRC members over the past year, and excitement for what lies ahead. It will be a year of changes as we graciously send Kathy Berlin off to new adventures and share our gratitude for her 16 years of service to the MRC. A special message from Kathy is in this month's Member Spotlight.
As I take on the role of MRC Coordinator, I am looking forward to developing relationships, learning from you, and conducting strike team meetings. I am also interested in developing new approaches to recruitment, training, and exercises. I really enjoy this work, and hope to engage you all, as we have some FUN together this year!

It is held from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at the Heritage Center of Brooklyn Center (formerly Earle Brown Heritage Center). Kathy Berlin, RN, PHN

As my time with the Medical Reserve Corps program comes to an end, I’ve been reflecting on the work
I’ve been privileged to have been engaged in over the past 16 years. What stands out as the most
meaningful aspect of my work are the relationships developed with MRC members, university
partners, and the colleagues within my department.
Sure, the work was meaningful and most often enjoyable; however, it was the people I’ve met along the
way that made coordinating a public health emergency response program a rich and fulfilling
experience.
My dad always says there are three things that make for a fulfilling life: to love, feel loved, and to have
a sense of purpose. My life’s work as a nurse and public health professional has felt rewarding and impactful.
As for love, I will continue to treasure loving relationships with my wife, 3 adult children, pets, friends,
and extended family. Moving forward, my love of gardening is allowing me the opportunity to start a
small garden design, installation, and maintenance business.
So the transition begins….with warm memories and gratitude leading the way.
