FAQ's for MRC Members Deploying during COVID-19 Pandemic
General COVID-19 Questions
Q. How is COVID-19 spread?
A. The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person, between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet), through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. It also may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.
Q. What do I do if I become ill?
A. Stay home except to get medical care. People who are mildly ill with COVID-19 are able to recover at home.
- Do not leave, except to get medical care.
- Do not visit public areas.
- Stay in touch with your doctor.
- Call before you get medical care.
- Be sure to get care if you feel worse or you think it is an emergency.
- Avoid public transportation: Avoid using public transportation, ride-sharing, or taxis.
- Do not show up for your MRC deployment shift if you have respiratory illness symptoms.
Q. What do I do if I cannot find a shift on Shiftboard for the position I am interested in?
A. If you do not see the role you are looking for, that means all the shifts for that role have been taken. For example, if you are interested in a logistics role and you do not see a logistics role on Shiftboard, it means that the logistics shifts have all be filled or there isn't a current need for logistics support, so it wouldn't be listed on the Shiftboard calendar.
Q. Will I need personal protective equipment (PPE) during a deployment?
A. A determination will be made based on the specifics of each deployment. When PPE is required the Medical Reserve Corps will follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines.
Q. How will I be notified if there is a deployment?
A. MRC members will receive an email and/or text when a deployment opportunity arises.
