Building Emergency Plans

The University of Minnesota's Department of Emergency Management (DEM) coordinates the development of Building Emergency Plans on campus. They provide a Building Emergency Plan template. Evacuation and shelter-in-place procedures are the focus of the template.

Each health sciences building on campus should have a current Building Emergency Plan. (If your building does not have a plan, department-level plans can be developed.)

A toolkit is available to help create a Building Emergency Plan. Although it's best to create building-wide plans, this toolkit may also be used by departments or portions of buildings (floors, wings, etc.) where there is interest. Contact DEM at to identify any previous versions of plans.
